3D Scenes

This is a part of the dark world of my thesis project, in which players could have multiple strong abilities but could only stay for a short amount of time.

The idea is to make it cultish and mysterious since it is how the nemesis sees the world.
Here is the part of the bright world for my thesis game. The idea was to build a holy abstract world to represent how normal lives see the world.

The inspiration is Manifold Garden by William Chyrn. Players need to explore and solve puzzles to discover the truth behind this world.

Another level I co-designed this level for my thesis project with my teammate. It is a universe full of sci-fi-styled mechanical structure like this that has been working in perpetual motion forever.

The world is a machine, and we are all small gears of it.
1-hour practice for thesis jam. It is inspired by the movie Light House and my childhood dream, players are spawned on the top of the house and get to the bottom, to the ocean before being devoured by the black sun.
Random practice. The first one took me 2 hours to build, it was from a childhood dream. The second one took me 3 hours, it is based on a corner of my college dorm, and I redesigned some features to make it more like a horror game scene. The rest two are from my personal project practice.

Character Design

Wheel

It's a robot character design for my thesis game which is used to dash and break walls.

Because of its purpose, the model started as a hammer. But the idea was too superficial. Eventually, I turned it into a wheel for a smarter design, and the shape of it resembles that of an eye, which is more artistic in style.

Jumper

A jumper robot. I was inspired by Tall Bird from Don’t Starve and real-life frogs, so I gave it long legs and big feet. Later on, it dawned on me that this robot resembles a designer’s Alien Lemon Squeezer, but mine is more artistic and more vibrant.
My thesis was in need of something that could fly. I thought about batoids, dragonflies, and dandelions. Yet batoid’s contour felt more modern and alien. Also, making models for exoskeletons was my specialty, so I made a Flish (flying fish) based on batoids, turning its tail into a spine. I look forward to animating it.

Flish (Fly Fish)

The minion robot was designed to serve my thesis’ storytelling. It needs to be deconstructed, reconstructed, and at the same time, show its core to the player. The story dictates that the minion robot has to look clumsy but move relatively lithe when moving so I created this design (even though a lot of people told me it looked like a rice cooker…).

These are chubby kids in Halloween costumes for my Halloween game Trick or Trade. The idea is to make them diverse and cute, chunky so that our game is funny and family-friendly.
